Class action filed against Ring for privacy violations
Plaintiff John Baker Orange, with others, filed a class action lawsuit against security company Ring (home security product provider owned by Amazon). According to the lawsuit, Amazon and Ring are being sued for negligence, invasion of privacy, breach of an implied contract and warranty, and unfair enrichment. In the lawsuit, Orange claims that his Internet-connected camera was hacked and used by a perpetrator to harass his children while they were playing. Furthermore, he argues that Amazon and Ring were aware of their faulty products and yet they neglected to solve the problem or to provide any security measures to help users defend themselves. The lawsuit also details seven other hacking incidents via Ring devices that took place in 2019.
