Several Chinese display manufacturers, including BOE, CSOT, Tianma, and Visionox, have collaborated to contest a patent owned by Samsung Display in the United States. The patent under scrutiny, identified as US Patent No. 7,414,599, deals with an OLED device pixel’s circuitry and driving technique. The Chinese display manufacturers are actively attempting to nullify Samsung Display’s OLED patent, which could inadvertently suggest that they have utilized Samsung’s technologies without obtaining the necessary licenses.

The conflict originated when BOE initiated patent infringement lawsuits against Samsung in China, focusing on divisions unrelated to display technologies. The trial for patent invalidation is pending, and further developments will determine the implications for the parties involved and the broader display manufacturing industry. Samsung Display had previously attempted to prevent the importation of OLED panels that it believed infringed upon its patents and technologies.
