Chinese authorities shut down entertainment news accounts

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has shut down close to 60 popular entertainment news accounts, quoting the country’s new cybersecurity law, which states that online content should not breach privacy. According to the CAC, the accounts were closed to ‘proactively promote socialist core values and develop a healthy and positive atmosphere’, taking measures to counter ‘excessive reporting on the private lives of and gossip about celebrities’.
