China: digital maps provided in the country to be stored on servers within its borders
According to Fortune, China’s State Council announced that, starting 1 January 2016, all digital maps provided in China have to be stored on servers within the country’s borders. It is reported that the aim of this new regulation is to “boost development of the geographic information industry” and safeguard “national sovereignty and geographic information security”.
