The renowned Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) space observatory in Chile has been hit by a cyberattack, suspending its astronomical observations and knocking its website online. 

The Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) space observatory in Chile has been hit by a cyberattack, suspending its astronomical observations and knocking its website online.

The institution, which has most powerful telescope in the world for monitoring molecular gas and dust, announced the occurrence on Twitter on 2 November, explaining that the attack did not compromise the ALMA antennas or any scientific data.

At the moment of writing, it is still unknown what type of attack the observatory was subjected to.
