CEWASTE report: EU to make recycling of e-waste a legal requirement

The EU countries should be legally required to recycle critical raw materials (CRMs) in select e-waste categories, says the new report by the EU-funded CEWASTE consortium. The UN-backed report identifies gaps in standards and puts forward an upgraded and fully tested certification scheme to collect, transport, process and recycle e-waste, as well as the mechanisms to audit compliance.

The report follows the 2020 EU action plan to make Europe less reliant on third countries for CRMs by diversifying supply from primary and secondary sources and enhancing resource efficiency and circularity.
