Canada to introduce national contact tracing app

Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau announced that the country will launch a national contact-tracing app in the coming weeks. The initiative is led by the Canadian Digital Service, partnering with Shopify, Blackberry, and the Government of Ontario. The trial will soon begin in the province of Ontario. Whereas the use of the app is on a voluntary basis, Trudeau stressed greater participation from Canadian citizens will ensure its efficacy. The Canadian app is based on the Apple-Google Exposure Notification System.
