Can artificial intelligence apps help learn about discrimination?
The article Some Artificial Intelligence Applications Are Making Humans Better People proposes that artificial intelligence (AI) may help humans to improve analysis and learn from the processes AI uses to solve problems. For example, the article notes ‘ A social network for young professionals automatically analyzes user-uploaded photos to see if there is a correlation between traits that aren’t listed in users’ text profiles (e.g., skin color, gender, weight, etc.) and the number of recruiters who pass over them. By understanding and proving these linkages, the company is able to help raise awareness and consciously combat these subconscious biases.’ By documenting and understanding discrimination, we can learn to overcome it. Other learning situations are more obvious: learning from AI strategy game techniques, organisation, and data mining for safety issues.
