BRICS call for development of policies to bridge the digital divide

Heads of states and governments attending the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg issued the Johannesburg Declaration where they underscored the need for development of effective policies to bridge the digital divide through measures such as ‘effective mechanisms for transfer of relevant technologies’. The parties also commended the establishment of the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) intended to enhance cooperation on digitalisation, innovation, and inclusiveness and ‘maximise the opportunities and address the challenges arising from the 4th Industrial Revolution.’

The 10th edition of the BRICS Summit organised under the theme of ‘BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution’ was held between 25 – 27 July.
