Breakdown of two undersea cables disrupts internet services in Vietnam

According to a news report, internet services were disrupted in Vietnam for a couple of hours after the breakdown of two out of the five undersea cables supplying internet to the country. The event that took place on 9 January 2021 affected the Asia Pacific Gateway, which links Vietnam with Hong Kong and Japan thereby making it difficult for internet users in Japan to access foreign websites including Facebook and Netflix. While the reason for the breakdown was not immediately known, internet service providers in Vietnam have diverted traffic to the remaining three undersea cables to maintain international internet traffic.
