Brazil to create AI lab network

The Brazilian Minister of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications, Marcos Pontes has announced governmental plans for the creation of a network of eight research labs focused on artificial intelligence (AI). One of the labs will involve co-operation with the Brazilian army for the development of advanced AI technology in areas such as cybersecurity. The rest of the labs will focus on applied AI, such as the use of AI in the governmental sector, smart cities, healthcare, agriculture and manufacturing. More details on timelines, locations, investments, and possible partners are to be announced.
