Botswana makes biometric passport deal with SADC

Botswana has signed a deal with SADC to create biometric passports for officials, facilitating travel within the 16-country bloc. The passports will comply with ICAO standards.

Botswana has made an agreement with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for Botswana to produce biometric travel documents for SADC officials. The deal was made under SADC treaty and protocol on immunities and privileges. It will enable SADC officials to travel within the 16 country SADC bloc.  The travel document will conform to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards on biometric passports.
