Biden issues National Security Memorandum on improving critical infrastructure security

The US President Joe Biden issued a National Security Memorandum on ‘Improving Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure Control Systems’, establishing voluntary cybersecurity goals for operators of critical infrastructure. The memorandum directs Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop cybersecurity performance goals for critical infrastructure, in collaboration with other agencies. The memorandum also establishes the President’s Industrial Control System Cybersecurity (ICS) Initiative, initially covering the electricity sector and now expanded to cover natural gas pipelines, with more sectors to come.
