Belgian DPA finds IAB Europe’s ad tracking consent framework violates GDPR

According to TechCrunch, the Belgian DPA found that one of the main frameworks used for gathering user consent for targeting with behavioural ads does not meet the legal standards of the EU’s GDPR. Bloomberg reports that the standard developed by Independent Advertising Bureau (IAB) Europe insufficiently limits access to potentially sensitive user data. The investigation of the Belgian DPA follows complaints against the use of personal data in the context of real-time bidding systems used for behavioural ads. IAB Europe’s Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) is part ofthe ad industry standard’s response to the entry in force of the GDPR.
