Bangladeshi journalist arrested under Digital Security Act

Police arrested an ailing journalist, Tanvir Hasan Tanu, district correspondent of the Daily Ittefaq and Independent TV under Digital Security Act.

The police said Tanu was arrested over a report of irregularities in serving food at a local hospital. Nadirul Aziz, superintendent of the hospital filed a case with the Thakurgaon Sadar police station against three journalists, including Tanu, under the Digital Security Act.

The other two journalists are Abdul Latif Litu, district correspondent of Bangladesh Pratidin, and Rahim Shuvo, district correspondent of News Bangla 24.

Tanu was arrested when he went to the police station to know about the case filed against him, said Lutfor Rahman Mithu, secretary of Thakurgaon Press club.

Monsur Ali, president of Thakurgaon press club demanded immediate release of Tanu and condemned the action.
