AWS launches new generative AI certification and updates security exams
Beta registration for the AWS Certified Generative AI Developer- Professional opens 18 November 2025, with hands-on exam prep available.

AWS has announced major updates to its certification portfolio, reinforcing its support for professionals developing expertise in AI and cloud security.
The new AWS Certified Generative AI Developer – Professional certifies developers to use foundation models with RAG architectures and vector databases. Beta registration opens on 18 November 2025, with participants earning an Early Adopter badge upon completion.
AWS will launch an Exam Prep Plan on 18 November with practice assessments, hands-on SimuLearn simulations, and lessons covering all exam domains. Role-based training is also included to refresh key AWS skills and knowledge for AI development.
The AWS Certified Machine Learning- Specialty exam will retire on 31 March 2026, with current holders remaining certified until their expiry date. AWS urges learners to continue their AI/ML journey with other certifications, including the new Generative AI Developer credential.
The AWS Certified Security- Specialty exam is also being updated (SCS-C03) to reflect emerging technologies, with dedicated focus on generative AI and machine learning security.
A new exam prep plan and advanced learning modules will support proactive planning, monitoring, and incident response in cloud environments.
