Australian government’s tax plans may ‘force’ eBay to block Australian shoppers

eBay has announced that it could block Australian shoppers from buying goods from abroad if the Australian government implements a plan to apply goods and services tax (GST) on all goods sold on eBay. Currently, GST does not apply to imports worth less than $1,000, yet the government is planning to apply a 10% tax from 1 July 2017. According to eBay Australia and New Zealand’s vice president, ‘the Government’s legislation may force eBay to prevent Australians from buying from foreign sellers’.
