Asia Pacific regional IGF

The Asia Pacific regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF) is being held in Vladivostok, Russia, this year and has two things to celebrate: the 10th APrIGF anniversary and the 25th anniversary of ccTLLD.ru.

One of the discussion topics at the forum was Internet localisation. Pavel Khramtsov (MSK-IX) said that a great amount of data on .RU and .PФ was clearly local user traffic, so if the Russian Internet were to be localised, it would make little difference. However, he continued that, ‘if there were no connection to the global Internet, website will soon begin to decline, this is why we are only talking about a short term solution for emergencies only. Full integrity is critical for network and localisation should not last long’.
