Amnesty International sues Israel’s Defense Ministry over spyware firm NSO Group

The Israel based NSO Group produces Pegasus, a highly invasive tool that can turn on a target’s smartphone camera and microphone, and access data, practically turning the phone into a spying device. The NSO Group has been previously subject to lawsuits related to Pegasus, including by Facebook owned WhatsApp.

In the current case, Amnesty International claims the company’s technology was used against one of its staff members and violated human rights. The claim seeks to have NSO Group’s export license revoked and to promote greater oversight. As reported by Reuters, the court ordered closed door hearings due to concerns related to national security.
