Amid privacy concerns, European Commission wants to facilitate ‘data for common goods’ in context of COVID-19 crisis

In the context of the coronavirus outbreak, the European Commission wants EU member states to establish structures to facilitate the use of data for the common good. According to Euractiv, a Commission representative stated that “the current crisis shows the enormous potential of data, and the impact of data analytics on decision making has been huge”. The European Commission intends to facilitate to the access to relevant sector data, as part of its open data policy, and is planning to speed up the implementation of its European strategy for data, announced in February 2020.
