AI fraudsters target Binance with face hacks
The exchange has upgraded its defences and urged users to be cautious with personal images.
Crypto users are facing a growing threat from AI-powered face attacks, where scammers use AI to mimic victims’ faces and bypass facial recognition systems.
Criminals exploit publicly available selfies, leaked IDs and even casual online videos to create realistic deepfakes. If paired with a stolen device already logged into Binance or compromised PCs, these attacks can result in unauthorised account access.
Binance’s security team is actively combatting the issue by upgrading its facial recognition systems to detect AI-generated forgeries and blacklisting accounts linked to suspicious activity.
The company is also raising awareness through app alerts, blogs and user notifications, advising users to limit public sharing of facial images and secure their devices with strong passwords and two-factor authentication.
Despite the increased threat, Binance continues its global expansion. CEO Richard Teng recently announced plans to attract a further billion users to cryptocurrency. He also issued a separate warning about a new SMS spoofing scam, urging the crypto community to remain alert to evolving digital threats.
