African equity firm raises US$ 120m for digital inclusion

An African equity firm Convergence Partners that operates in the technology industry in Sub-Saharan Africa has raised US$ 120 million to support digital inclusion. With US$130 million more to go, the firm is expected to contribute to the construction of the digital infrastructure such as data centres, wireless, Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence (AI), to name but a few. In the long run, the fund should allow for creation of jobs, development of new skills as well as entrepreneurship. The initiative is supported by the United States International Development Finance Corporation, the European Investment Bank, the International Finance Corporation and Proparco.
