Africa is developing digital census with the support of UNECA

The African Centre for Statistics (ACS) at the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) is working with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to support digital transformation in African countries through replacing the recording of information on the census questionnaire from paper to an electronic device – like a tablet. Such transformation aims at improving the quality of data and speeding up the process of cleaning, validating, and tabulating data. UNECA and ONS will also help the countries address the challenges of the adoption of digital technologies. According to ACS, over 40 African countries will conduct the census in the 2020 round of African Censuses.
