A4AI Releases 2018 Affordability Report

Despite the global recognition of the importance of affordable internet access for all, policies needed to achieve this objective are slow according to the latest report of the Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI). The 2018 Affordability Report, which marks the fifth edition of the groundbreaking annual research into the state of policy to advance affordable internet access across the globe and also coincides with A4AI’s fifth anniversary, has the following as part of its top findings:

  • Policies to advance affordability have barely changed.
  • Over 60% of the countries studied have unaffordable internet.
  • Growth in the number of people using the internet has slowed.
  • Island archipelago nations face the highest costs to connect.
  • Latin American countries once again dominate the 2018 Affordability Drivers Index.
