50% Nigerian women offline, can’t access internet, says UNICEF

According to a news report, Ms. Rushnan Murzata, Deputy Representative in Nigeria for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has stated that over 50 percent of women in Nigeria have no access to the internet.  During a presentation at a forum to mark the 2021 International Day of the Girl Child, Ms. Murzata further noted that 20 percent of women are less likely than men to own a smartphone thereby deepening the digital exclusion gap. According to the report, the Deputy Representative made a call to stakeholders to ‘use the opportunity of this year’s celebration to ask for improved access to digital skills and other life skills by girls for the transition to secondary education.’
