2016 World Press Freedom Index warns for ‘a new era of propaganda’

Reporters Without Borders has published the 2016 edition of the World Press Freedom Index. The Index ranks 180 countries on a broad set of indicators, which include online elements. The Index reveals a ‘deep and disturbing decline in respect for media freedom.’ Reporters Without Borders even warns for ‘a new era of propaganda’, as ‘today it is increasingly easy for powers to appeal directly to the public through new technologies, and so there is a greater degree of violence against those who represent independent information.’
