Declaration on the digital economy: Innovation, growth and social prosperity (OECD/LEGAL/0426)

Resolutions and Declarations

The Cancún Declaration recognizes ‘that the digital economy is a powerful catalyst for innovation, growth and social prosperity’, but there needs to be more effort done in order to seize the opportunities and tackle challenges presented by the digital economy. Key areas of focus are reduction of barriers to digital technologies, higher speed connectivity, higher transparency in global multi-stakeholder Internet governance, the SDGs, and secure, accessible, global and open internet. The declaration calls for several areas of improvement and robust aims, including the free flow of information, stimulation of digital innovation, the strengthening of e-commerce, the reduction of barriers to invest in and adoption of digital technologies in all economic sectors, and education and skill-training for able participation in the digital economy and society.
