Haiti embarks on programme to widen internet coverage

Through a US$60 million World Bank grant that has led to the rollout of fibre optic cables, the government of Haiti has embarked on a digital programme, to give broadband access to 2.7 million people across the country over the next 5 years.

Through this project, Haitians will have access to faster, cheaper internet access and hotspots; digital training for residents and businesses; critical communications systems; databases; high-speed internet service for public sector institutions, as well as the financing of intergovernmental network services. The project was approved to start in 2021 and to close in 2026.
