Meta fined €17m by Irish DPA

According to RTE, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has announced a fine of €17m on Meta, following an inquiry into a series of data breach notifications in 2018. The Irish data protection authority found that Facebook had failed to have in place appropriate technical and organisational measures that would enable it to readily demonstrate the security measures that it implemented in practice to protect EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Separately, the DPC has published a statistical report on handling cross-border complaints under the GDPR’s One-Stop-Shop mechanism.
