Paralysed swimmer finds hope through AI therapy

Specialist clinics in Wales and Germany supported recovery using advanced technology.

A swimmer paralysed in 2023 is walking again using AI based therapy.

Dan Richards was paralysed after a wave accident during a New Year’s Eve swim. Doctors initially warned he would remain bed bound for life.

The accident happened at Langland Bay, Wales in 2023, causing a severe neck injury. Months of hospital treatment followed in Bristol and Wales.

Specialist clinics in Wales used robotic and AI guided stimulation to restore movement. Therapists combined assisted walking machines with sensor driven muscle activation.

Further treatment in Bochum, Germany paired stem cell therapy with an AI controlled mobility suit. Richards remains hopeful as rehabilitation continues into 2026.
