Schools are set to test OpenAI’s latest AI tool as districts look for secure and practical ways to integrate technology into daily teaching.

OpenAI has unveiled ‘ChatGPT for Teachers’, a version of the chatbot built specifically for K-12 educators and school districts in the US.

The tool allows teachers to handle student information securely, receive tailored teaching support and collaborate with colleagues.

Districts will be given administrative controls to decide how the tool is used, with an initial rollout covering around 150,000 educators. OpenAI confirmed that teachers will be able to use ChatGPT for Teachers for free until June 2027.

The company said no student data shared within the platform will be used to train its models, addressing long-standing concerns from teachers and parents. OpenAI believes that providing educators with direct access to AI tools will enable them to guide responsible use in classrooms.
