Google adds CLI and API support so Jules can run inside developer workflows

Google’s programming-oriented agent Jules enters native workflows: terminal commands, automated pipelines and file-scoped tasks become possible.

Google has expanded the capabilities of Jules, its asynchronous AI coding agent, by introducing Jules Tools, a new lightweight command line interface, and making the Jules API available for public integration. These updates aim to embed Jules more deeply into developers’ existing workflows.

Using the command line tool, developers can start, stop, and verify Jules tasks directly from their terminal. They can invoke functions on specific repositories, inspect activity and apply flags to customise behaviour. However, this is intended to minimise the need to switch between different environments while coding.

The new API enables integration with other systems, allowing developers to connect Jules to issue trackers, incorporate it into CI/CD pipelines and trigger tasks programmatically.

Additional improvements include enhanced memory so that Jules remembers user preferences, support for environment variables, better file scoping for task context, and reduced latency. Google said the update responds to developer feedback that working in the terminal is essential and focuses on minimising interruptions.
