New York, USA

During the UN General Assembly’s High-Level Week in New York, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) will convene Digital@UNGA 2025 under the theme ‘Digital for Good: For People and Prosperity.‘ Taking place on 23 September at UN Headquarters, the anchor event will spotlight how digital technologies can foster inclusion, bridge divides, and generate opportunities worldwide.

The evening programme will feature senior UN leaders, government officials, industry voices, and civil society representatives. Discussions will address how trust, rights, and equity shape the digital future, while spotlight presentations will showcase concrete initiatives such as new skills programmes and the AI Hub for Sustainable Development. Rapid-fire exchanges will provide space for diverse perspectives, and the event will also highlight global achievements in digital innovation through the WSIS Prizes.

Alongside the main gathering, affiliate sessions organised by a broad range of partners will extend the dialogue throughout the week. These sessions explore the many ways digital innovation intersects with global priorities. Topics include shaping the future of internet governance beyond the WSIS+20 process, alternative governance and business models for fairer data economies, and the role of AI in advancing the SDGs. Several events focus on Africa, including the development of green digital infrastructure and strengthening digital backbones for resilience. Others highlight cutting-edge issues such as bridging the global identity divide, creating trust in online information in the age of AI, and leveraging digital trade opportunities.

The programme also emphasises pressing global challenges, with sessions on accelerating early warning systems for climate-related risks, ensuring inclusive access to AI innovation, and preparing the workforce for the impact of AI and automation. Technology’s role in connectivity will be showcased through discussions on space-based infrastructure, while further events explore how AI can be applied responsibly across sectors to drive global progress.
