Lottery players turn to ChatGPT for winning numbers

The internet is buzzing after a TikTok user claimed that ChatGPT helped her win $11 in the Powerball lottery.

In her video, Ariel (@ariellab04) explained that her boyfriend asked ChatGPT for the winning numbers, and three matched. The couple split their picks, with Ariel using family birthdays while her boyfriend relied on the chatbot’s suggestions.

While stories like Ariel’s may tempt others to try the same approach, AI cannot predict winning numbers. ChatGPT can suggest strategies such as avoiding commonly chosen numbers or generating random selections, but the lottery remains a game of chance.

In 2023, a user from Thailand also claimed to have won THB 2,000 (approximately $59 USD) by using ChatGPT. Commenters under Ariel’s post said they planned to test the theory, while others pointed out that even if many used the exact AI-generated numbers, winners would have to split the jackpot.

Experts stress that AI cannot foresee random outcomes, and its picks are no different from quick-pick tickets. Still, the trend shows how people are turning to generative AI for everything, even a shot at becoming millionaires.
