Claude becomes the preferred AI model for enterprise coding
Coding applications account for Anthropic’s largest market lead over OpenAI.

Anthropic has overtaken OpenAI to become the leading provider of AI models for enterprise use, according to a new industry report. Menlo Ventures revealed that Anthropic now holds 32% of the enterprise large language model market by usage, compared with OpenAI’s 25%.
The shift represents a significant change from 2023, when OpenAI held half the market and Anthropic only 12%. Adoption surged after the launch of Claude 3.5 Sonnet in June 2024, followed by Claude 3.7 Sonnet in February 2025.
Anthropic dominates in coding applications, with 42% of enterprise usage, more than double OpenAI’s share in that area. While Google has also seen gains, Meta continues to lead in open source models, although only a minority of businesses are using those tools.
The report suggests enterprises are leaning towards closed AI models, with more than half avoiding open source entirely. Although OpenAI remains popular with consumers, Claude appears to be the preferred tool for developers and enterprise workflows.
