Laos and China strengthen AI collaboration through MoU
The MoU focuses on providing technical training and education programs aimed at fostering the development of smart technology-related human resources in Laos.
The Research Institute for Smart Technology under the Ministry of Technology and Communications (MoTC) of Laos and Chongqing College of Electronic Engineering in China have entered into a significant partnership to advance artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data development. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 24 February during an online conference between the two institutions, marking a milestone in smart technology collaboration.
Building human resource capacity
The MoU focuses on providing technical training and education programs aimed at fostering the development of smart technology-related human resources in Laos. This initiative seeks to enhance the skills and knowledge of professionals, equipping them to lead advancements in AI and Big Data technologies.
Advancing research and infrastructure
A key goal of the partnership is to strengthen the capacity of leading research institutions in Laos to utilize smart technologies for various assessments and applications. The collaboration will establish foundational facilities such as AI and Big Data testing rooms, vocational training spaces, and other resources to support these efforts.
Expanding applications of smart technology
According to the MoU, the Research Institute for Smart Technology will actively seek financial support for research projects that apply smart technologies in diverse sectors. These include agriculture, education, tourism, labour, public health, and environmental protection. By exploring these areas, the partnership aims to drive innovation and address critical challenges in Laos.
A foundation for the future
The MoU was co-signed by Mr Phonpaseuth Phitsamai, Director of the Research Institute for Smart Technology, Prof. Xing Kunlun, Deputy Director of Chongqing College of Electronic Engineering, and Mr. Allan Yang, Vice President of the Lao-China Economic Trade Promotion Association and Chairman of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Both parties believe that this partnership will set a solid foundation for AI and Big Data research in Laos.
