Uber donates app to World Food Programme to use in Ukraine

Uber donates app to World Food Programme to aid in food distribution in Ukraine, benefiting 3 million people monthly. The app, based on ‘Uber Direct’, allows real-time delivery tracking in areas inaccessible to larger vehicles. Initial use in Dnipro will expand to other cities like Chernivtsi, Kyiv, Lviv, and Vinnytsia.

To help distribute food in Ukraine, Uber donated an adapted version of its ‘Uber Direct’ software app to the UN World Food Programme (WFP). This is meant to help the WEP enhance its operations in Ukraine and provides food and cash to 3 million people per month. The app will further allow the WFP to coordinate a fleet of vehicles and track deliveries in real-time to densely populated areas where larger vehicles might not be able to travel safely. The WFP is already using the app in Dnipro, with plans to expand to Chernivtsi, Kyiv, Lviv, and Vinnytsia.
