UK Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Judicial Guidance

Principles and Recommendations

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Guidance for Judicial Office Holders has been developed to assist judicial office holders in navigating the complexities associated with utilising Artificial Intelligence (AI). It outlines the key risks and issues inherent in deploying AI within the judicial system and offers recommendations to mitigate these concerns effectively. The guidance underscores the need for any AI usage by or on behalf of the judiciary to align with this fundamental principle, emphasising the overarching obligation to preserve the integrity of the administration of justice. Applicable to all judicial office holders under the purview of the Lady Chief Justice and Senior President of the Tribunal, including their clerks and support staff, the guidance seeks to establish a comprehensive framework for the responsible and ethical integration of AI technologies in the legal domain. By incorporating examples of potential AI applications, the document aims to provide practical insights to enhance the understanding and implementation of AI within the judicial context while maintaining the paramount commitment to upholding the justice system’s integrity.
