Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (A/RES/70/1)
September 2015
About:
The resolution “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” announces 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets, as part of a new universal agenda building on the previous Millennium Development Goals and seeking to complete what they did not achieve. The new Sustainable Development Goals and Targets are meant as plans for action for ‘people, planet and prosperity’, and include all countries and stakeholders as participants. The resolution provides declarations of intent, the shared principles and commitments from the UN charter and all UN summits and conferences, and a vision for ambitious goals, most importantly the eradication of extreme poverty. The resolution details all goals and targets, in issues of poverty, health and well-being, education and gender equality, climate action, environmental protection and more. These goals and targets function as a plan for people and the planet as a whole, to be solved in global partnership.
