Namibia faces a growing threat from cybercrime, impacting both public and private sectors and hindering the country’s growth potential. With increased connectivity from the mobile revolution and submarine fibre-optic cables linking Namibia to cyberspace, the nation urgently needs a robust legislative framework to regulate online activities and address cybersecurity risks. While international standards for cybercrime are lacking, lessons can be drawn from regional African and European instruments. Namibia is a party to the AU Cyber Security Convention but needs comprehensive legislation. The absence of legislation underscores the importance of swiftly adopting and implementing a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy, as highlighted by UNCTAD.
