Impact of rapid technological change on the achievement of the sustainable development goals (A/RES/72/242)

Resolutions and Declarations

The document presents a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2017, and regards the impact of rapid technological change on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. It recognizes how ‘impacts, opportunities and challenges of rapid technological change on sustainable development, […] are not fully understood’. It further recognizes the need for better cooperation between stakeholders, to be aware and better control the impact of rapid technological change on the Sustainable Development Goals. While the resolution recognizes the importance of science, technology and innovation, it notes a growing divide between countries. The central role of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development is noted, and UN member states are encouraged to consider rapid technological change in order to benefit from opportunities and more efficiently address challenges. Lastly, the document requests development on the third multi-stakeholder forum on science, technology and innovation, in June 2018, and makes decisions regarding this.
