Mainstreaming a gender perspective in ITU and promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women through information and communication technologies (Resolution 70, Rev. Dubai 2018)

Resolutions and Declarations

ITU Resolution 70 seeks to mainstream a gender perspective in ITU and promote gender equality and the empowerment of women through telecommunications/information and communication technologies. Amongst other things the resolution calls on the parties to ‘encourage more women to take advantage of the opportunities offered by ICTs to establish and develop a business and to foster potential contributions to economic growth’ and ‘to review and revise, as appropriate, their respective policies and practices to ensure that recruitment, employment, training and advancement of women and men in the ICT sector are undertaken on a fair and equitable basis’. The resolution also invites the Council to ‘to examine the possibility for ITU, in close collaboration with relevant regional organisations, to take appropriate measures to establish a regional platform for women, devoted to using ICT in order to promote gender equality and empowerment of women and girls”.
