Improving access to assistive technology
The World Health Organisation (WHO) explored ways to improve access to assistive technologies given that some estimates show that more than 1 billion people could benefit from one or more assistive products. The impact of assistive technologies is manifold and includes socio-economic as well as health and well-being benefits. That said, there are a number of challenges related to access of assistive technologies such as lack of adequate standards and regulations, procurement and supply, and manufacturing, to name a few. The Report concludes with a list of measures that the WHO has undertaken and will continue to undertake in order to improve access to assistive technologies.
