Implementation and Development of 5G Networks in the Czech Republic

Strategies and Action Plans

The strategy for implementing and developing 5G networks in the Czech Republic is part of a larger initiative under the Digital Czech Republic concept and the Innovation Strategy of the Czech Republic 2019-2030. It focuses on creating infrastructure for high-speed communication to enhance the digital economy and society.

The construction and deployment of 5G networks require establishing high-capacity connections between base stations, predominantly through fibre optic systems. The deployment will occur in two phases: the first using existing LTE technology modified for 5G, and a second phase that introduces standalone 5G networks adhering to new specifications.

The strategic goals include ensuring reliable, high-capacity, and low-latency networks across the Czech Republic and integrating 5G into various sectors such as healthcare, education, and agriculture. This integration will involve implementing smart solutions like Smart Cities and Intelligent Transport Systems. There is also a strong focus on supporting research and development to foster the creation of applications and services that utilise 5G, with provisions for testing new technologies.

Addressing security risks associated with 5G technology is a priority, with particular emphasis on managing supply chain security and developing a robust cybersecurity framework.

The strategy outlines significant financial and legislative support requirements, emphasising the need for substantial investment from both the government and private entities to build out 5G infrastructure. This includes planning the allocation and utilization of frequency spectrums and establishing the necessary infrastructure to support widespread 5G deployment, especially in major transport nodes and urban areas.

Collaboration and stakeholder engagement are critical to the strategy’s success. This involves not only industry professionals, local governments, and academia but also aligning with European and international standards and initiatives to maintain competitive positioning in the global digital economy.
