IEEE Standard 802.11 and the wireless security

The following document focuses on the security characteristics of the 802.11 standard and examines its strengths and its weaknesses that lead to the development of new security mechanisms. Finally it examines how the new 802.11i extension provided the necessary security improvement to the original standard.
