Hungarian Digital Workforce Program
August 2016
Strategies and Action Plans
The Digital Workforce Program, initiated by the Ministry of National Economy, aims to enhance digital skills across various sectors in Hungary and boost the number of professionals in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector. The Hungarian government is committed to creating high-value jobs through digitalisation and addressing future labour market challenges. To achieve this, the government collaborates with stakeholders to align business strategies and emphasise the importance of a digitally proficient workforce.
In its initial phase, the program focuses on short-term, unconventional IT training programs, aiming to train an additional 20,000 IT professionals within three years. Simultaneously, it seeks to expand the capacity and content of traditional training systems while developing alternative pathways to equip the digital economy with a workforce skilled in IT and digital competencies.
The program prioritises:
- Digital skills for all citizens: Providing lifelong learning opportunities in digital competencies to ensure citizens’ well-being.
- Digital skills for the workforce: Expanding digital training for various professionals and supporting upskilling and reskilling initiatives in both public and private sectors.
- Digital skills for ICT professionals: Increasing the number of IT professionals, introducing new training programs, and enhancing existing ICT skills.
- Digital skills in education: Ensuring that all graduates from public education and training systems possess adequate digital competencies.
The Digital Workforce Program is integrated with Hungary’s Digital Success Programme and the Digital Education Programme.
