The G20 Digital Economy Ministerial Declaration of 2017 recognizes ‘that the digital economy is an increasingly important driver of global inclusive economic growth and plays a significant role in accelerating economic development, enhancing productivity of existing industries, cultivating new markets and industries and achieving inclusive sustainable growth and development’. They reaffirm commitments to a multi-stakeholder approach to Internet governance, the reduction of the digital divide, and other challenges in the sphere of ICT which need to be solved. The fundamental idea advanced is that of increased digitalisation as a more sustainable way for growth. For this purpose, the document affixes three additional topics and plans of action: – Policies for a digital future. – Digital skills in vocational education and training. – G20 Priorities on Digital Trade.
