October 2018
Policy Reports
Summary
The eTrade for All initiative, launched at UNCTAD’s 14th Ministerial Conference in July 2016, aims to support the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda by enhancing the capacity of developing countries to engage in and benefit from e-commerce. It focuses on seven key areas: e-commerce readiness assessment, ICT infrastructure, trade logistics, payment solutions, legal frameworks, access to finance, and skill development. The initiative includes rapid assessments of e-commerce readiness, which provide valuable insights for participating countries and guide discussions on e-commerce and the digital economy.
The rapid assessment of Burkina Faso’s e-commerce readiness is the twelfth conducted by UNCTAD and the third within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), following Senegal and Togo. These assessments aim to advance national and regional plans supporting the WAEMU Ministers’ recognition of e-commerce’s strategic importance in the Union’s economy. UNCTAD and its partners are also organizing a regional workshop in Ouagadougou in October 2018 to identify priority areas and promote necessary actions for developing e-commerce in the region. This report is intended to assist the Government of Burkina Faso in building a robust, secure, and business-friendly e-commerce ecosystem.
