Argentinian National Digital Health Strategy 2018-2024

Regulations and Policies

The Argentinian National Digital Health Strategy 2018-2024 is a plan to modernise the country’s health system at a national level, integrate information between the public health, social security and private health subsystems, and reduce gaps by computerising the system to enable better and easier access. The key objectives of the strategy are:

  • Establish conceptual guidelines for the design and development of interoperable health information systems as a state policy
  • Adopt systems at the point of care to allow primary recording of information and enable information exchange through real interoperability
  • Synergize people, technology and processes to enhance integrated health service networks
  • Enable healthcare professionals to access all health information

The strategy was built by taking international recommendations into account, such as WHO toolkit for National eHealth Strategies and their Global Strategy on Digital Health. It is divided into phases, with Phase II running from 2020-2024. Some key initiatives under the strategy include:

  • Creation of the Mi Argentina/Mi Salud citizen digital health portal and app
  • Establishment of the National Directorate of Health Information System to coordinate the strategy
  • Governance agreements with each province within the Universal Health Coverage framework plan

The ultimate goal is to provide universal health coverage by strengthening provincial health systems and enabling sustainable health systems that promote universal access to care through the appropriate use of digital technologies.
