Principles and Recommendations
Summary
The ISTPA Privacy Framework, created to guide privacy management solutions, was reviewed in light of evolving privacy needs since its 2002 publication. The study analyzed 12 major international privacy instruments, such as the EU Data Protection Directive and HIPAA, to assess the framework’s relevance. The analysis mapped key privacy principles like Accountability, Consent, and Security, identifying subcomponents and additional requirements like anonymity and data flow. The study’s findings led to refined operational definitions for each principle, helping to update the ISTPA Framework for modern privacy challenges and aiding privacy officers and policymakers.
